Vision and purpose
Global Health Promotion, is an official publication of the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE). It is a multilingual journal, which publishes authoritative peer-reviewed articles and practical information for a world-wide audience of professionals interested in health promotion and health education.
Global Health Promotionpublishes four regular issues a year (March, June, September, December) plus supplement issues ranging in scope and size. For information on publishing a Supplement, contact the Managing Editor.
The journal aims to:

publish academic content and commentaries of practical importance;
-
provide an international and interdisciplinary forum for the dissemination and exchange of health promotion, health education and public health theory, research findings, practice and reviews;
-
publish articles which ensure wide geographical coverage and are of general interest to an international readership;
-
provide fair, supportive, efficient and high quality peer review and editorial handling of all submissions.
Types of contributions
-
Original scholarly papers of up to 5,000 words, submitted to blind peer review, in any area of theory, policy or practice relevant to health promotion and all contributing disciplines.

Commentaries of no more than 2,000 words, which will be given editorial consideration and not peer review. Commentaries may be on any subject of general interest to the IUHPE readership.

Editorials, commentaries and texts of conference addresses commissioned by the Editors or IUHPE leadership.

Supplement issues bringing together collections of papers on particular themes, and usually edited by a Guest Editor. These issues are commissioned by the IUHPE Officers and the Editor in Chief of Global Health Promotion.

Distribution
Currently, Global Health Promotion reaches over 2,000 members in approximately 150 countries. It is sent to approximately 200 library subscribers.
As part of our collaboration with SAGE, the journal is involved in different initiatives to make academic journals and research more widely available in low-income countries at no or greatly reduced cost. Global Health Promotion participates in the following schemes through SAGE, giving it unprecedented global reach:

TheJournal Donation Project, based at The New School, NY, which assists "in rebuilding major research and teaching libraries in countries that have fallen victim to political or economic deprivation". It is active in Russia and the FSU countries, Nigeria, Vietnam, Cuba and Indonesia.

The International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP). INASP provides institutions with access to SAGE Premier (all SAGE journals online). Currently 47 institutions in Ethiopia, Honduras, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda are benefiting from SAGE Premier through INASP (these institutional subscription numbers are included in the consortia subscriptions table above).

The UN's Research4Life initiative, which encompasses the AGORA, HINARI and OARE programmes. Although the focus of these programmes is the dissemination in developing countries of research on health, agriculture and the environment, all STM, social science and humanities disciplines are represented.
