GWG on Research

The GWG on research was created in 2011 following the 20th IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion held in Geneva to develop the IUHPE research agenda. The terms of reference were developed and approved by the VP for Scientific Affairs and a work plan was developed and approved by the Executive Board.

The role of the GWG on Health Promotion Research is to provide support, contribute to the reflections and identify resources (i.e.both human and financial) for the implementation of the IUHPE research workplan. The GWG on Health Promotion Research will ensure geographical/ language representation in the implementation of the different activities. Members of the GWG on Research are appointed to take the lead in the development and implementation of the different priority actions that constitute the Group work plan.

The mission of the GWG on Health Promotion Research is to support the development and implementation of the IUHPE research work plan by:

-  Contributing to the reflection on the IUHPE’s role in the development of health promotion research;

- Taking the leadership for the implementation of the four main activities that constitute the work plan by providing support for their implementation and development and feedback to the different deliverables;

- Serving on the Editorial Committee of the Global Health Promotion supplement issue dedicated to health promotion research;

- Contributing to identifying key individuals and stakeholders who should be considered in the development and implementation of the work plan;

- Identifying financial resources to support the work plan as appropriate;

- Serving as an ambassador at relevant occasions to promote this work plan.

The work plan was organised along the following 4 objectives:

- To take stock and identify key resources for health promotion research embedded in the IUHPE’s global expert and professional network;

- To provide space for exchanges between researchers, research students and academic/research units;

- To develop a supplement issue of Global Health Promotion that will contribute to the discussion on health promotion research;

- To map and analyze the current funding situation for health promotion research globally.

The GWG on Health Promotion Research will largely work through teleconferences. Opportunities for face to face meetings will also be envisaged as opportunities arise (such as during the 2013 IUHPE World Conference on Health Promotion).

The working language will be English.

The membership of the IUHPE Global Working Group on Health Promotion Research reflects the diverse

expertise and various regional perspectives in the field of health promotion research. Special attention is put

to include members from low and middle income countries as well as members from different linguistic

backgrounds.

The following principles have been adopted for the composition of the Global Working Group on Health

Promotion Research:

- Representation across regions and of IUHPE official working languages

- Knowledgeable about key issues related to the development of health promotion research

- Ability to contribute actively and link to relevant initiatives

- Bring in key partners and potential new partners
