Historical Background of the Region
The European Region was the first IUHPE region to be established, in 1965, when the organization decided to establish regions in order to promote relations and activity with the membership.

The Estonian Medical Association, the Estonian Union for Health Promotion, the Estonian Health Foundation and the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) are pleased to invite you to the 9th European IUHPE Conference on Health Promotion on Health and Quality of Life, organized on September 27-29, 2012, in Tallinn, Estonia.
The purpose of the conference is to bring together people from all European countries, who are responsible and concerned about population health, quality of life, solidarity and prosperity in European societies: practioners, researchers and decision-makers, from both the public and the private sectors. The main aim is to share and learn from experiences of EU Member States governments and their institutions, communities and neighborhoods on the strategic management of the consequences of the economic decline within their countries; and to explore new solutions for population health.
The objectives of the conference are:

to review the influence of the economic recession on populations' health, the determinants of health and quality of life, especialyy within vulnerable groups;

to search best practices and innovative approaches for good governance, poverty reduction and social inclusion, in order to address the problems which arose during this period of economic turmoil and to consider potential solutions for the post-recession period; and
-
to discuss strategies, methods and required collaborative efforts in order to prepare post-crises health promotion actions/activities and to promote sustainable health, with environmental issue being completely integrated in strategic planning at regional, antional and local levels;

to stimulate partnerships, investments and solidarity for health between different sectors, at all levels in the European Community.
