Donors
Donors are a key asset for any global organisation, as they contribute substantial resources to support the core functions of a structure to support the realisation of the objectives. As the IUHPE works in close collaboration with partners and members to cooperate on multi-partner projects, in the IUHPE context donors are distinguished with respect to their support of the scientific agenda by the fact that they are not members of the IUHPE and they make resources available with a greater focus on strategic cooperation on jointly defined priority areas rather than an exchange of services per se.
The IUHPE's main donor is the French Health Directorate, with whom it has a series of triennial agreements to support joint priorities. Regardless of the overarching theme of each series of the 3-year agreements (such as decentralization and territorial/ regional approaches to health promotion policy and programmes in the 2006-2008 period), the relationship is based on a set of common objectives including, but not limited to:
-
strengthening the partnership between the French Health Directorate and the IUHPE, in particular through ensuring opportunities for French participation and representation on key IUHPE GWGs and scientific platforms;
-
developing the IUHPE's membership and professional network of international Francophone health promotion professionals, including individuals and institutions;
-
organisation and coordination of sessions at IUHPE regional and world conferences or other events that give visibility to these efforts and offer opportunities for high-level dialogue and debate on the priority issues; and
-
support for synthesis of messages and outcomes and their dissemination through the IUHPE's wide range of scientific communication tools.
The 2009-2011 period is under development and negotiation, however the emerging overall theme will be "Developing and implementing health public policy". Specifically this work will strongly support and link to the GWG on HIA. IUHPE efforts under this banner will focus on the role of inter-sectoral collaboration and mechanisms, the use of HIA as an important policy development and evaluation tool, and practical methods for integrating health in all policies.
